During the second quarter of 2011, the staff of Neville-Clarke (S) Pte Ltd went through a series of training and self assessment to ascertain that staffs were aware of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the subsidiary regulations. This initiation was to echo along with the Ministry of Manpower when the Act extended to cover all workplaces on 1 September 2011 to ensure the well-being of everyone at workplace.
The staffs were trained to identify hazards, evaluate the risk and implementing risk control to arrest the rest at source. In early September Neville Clarke Singapore went through the bizSAFE level 3 audit after achieving bizSAFE Level 1 and Level 2 recognition.
What is bizSAFE?
The bizSAFE is a five-step programme to assist companies build up their workplace safety and health (WSH) capabilities in order to achieve improvements in safety and health standards at the workplace. This programme is initiated by the Workplace Safety and Health Council to guide companies through a journey to ensure companies reduce risks at source.
The bizSAFE programme begins from top management demonstrating their commitment towards WSH, to attain risk management capabilities and implementing a WSH Management System.
Embracing the programme will allow companies to gain recognition and benefits of having a comprehensive WSH system in place.
The principles of the Workplace Safety and Health Act are:-
• To identify and reduce risks at source;
• To increase industry stakeholders' ownership; and
• To focus on achieving good WSH outcomes and systems rather than complying with prescriptive
