Industry survey data shows that most manufacturing quality issues are linked to poor process controls, most notably, the failure to follow required process steps or to reinforce agreed corrective actions.  Fundamental to improving process controls is verifying that critical process elements are continually in compliance with requirements.  This is where LPA comes in.  This audit zooms in on areas whereby deviation represents a high-risk for producing defective products, and is conducted by layers of auditors from operators to where necessary, Top Management, who will perform the exact same audit on a rotating schedule.

A well-designed and conducted LPA allows the organization to take proactive control of its manufacturing processes, improve product quality and have significant cumulative cost savings.  Moreover, because of the multiple levels of people participating, there is greater interest, trust and commitment, and a positive boost to overall morale.

This training program has been designed to address the requirements for Manufacturing Process Audits required by ISO/TS 16949:2002 and the AIAG Guidelines for Layered Process Audits (CQI-8 Nov 2005), and to help delegates get started on layered process audits.

Objectives

To provide participants with:

  • an understanding of the principles underlying Layered Process Audits
  • practical know-how on how to plan for Layered Process Audits, and
  • knowledge on how to conduct, report and review the audit findings.

Benefits

  • Able to reduce or eliminate common manufacturing process-quality-related issues.
  • Helps to promote a quick response to daily quality issues through early detection, containment and corrective actions.
  • Reduce unproductive time loss and labour cost in rework and remedial actions.

This course is designed for front line managers, engineers or executives in quality assurance and improvement program, particularly within the ISO 9001 and TS16949 management system framework; as well as to those responsible to develop and implement Layered Process Audits or Manufacturing Process Audits.

It is recommended that participants have some basic knowledge of Quality Management System audits.  Prior training on either ISO/TS 16949 Process Based Internal Auditing or ISO 9001 Process Based Internal Auditing would fulfill this criteria.
